Norway’s Rocky Future in Digital Currency
I recently had the privilege to pitch the introduction of digital currency to the norwegian government.
The answer was “This is interesting, but the trust in the classical banking system is especially strong in Norway, and therefore a pilot group in this area is not wanted at the moment.”
I disagree with that conclusion. To understand what you are dealing with, you simply need to know first what you actually saying yes or no to – independent of what a traditional financial model Norway is going towards in the future. Let teams and ideas compete – digital currency experts in one, and traditional banking experts in the other – then draw conclusions.
At least 30 countries we know of have their own task force regarding this topic, some countries – and municipalities like Berkeley – already have implemented it – you are missing the train here, Norway. You showed great vision with Oljefondet, and should continue that vision towards a digital future.
